April 23: Cover Letter Writing Workshop

April 23 | 6 – 7:30 PM | San Diego Natural History Museum

Join us for a hands-on workshop! Crafting a compelling, tailored cover letter can be challenging, but the San Diego Emerging Museum Professionals are here to help! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll get pragmatic, professional writing advice that you can apply to your own cover letter. Over the course of an hour and a half, you’ll learn characteristics of successful cover letters and work in groups to understand what makes a cover letter stand out for the right reasons. You will leave with tools to help you effectively communicate why you are the best candidate for your desired job.

RSVP TODAY!

Dr. Steve Merriam will facilitate the workshop. Dr. Merriam has served as Interim Director of the Professional Writing Program in SDSU’s Department of Rhetoric and Writing Studies, and currently directs the university’s undergraduate Business Communication program. Dr. Merriam teaches graduate courses in professional writing at SDSU and UCSD Extension, specializing in corporate and foundation grant writing for nonprofits.

Suggested donation: $10

This workshop includes light refreshments. Your donation helps San Diego EMP to continue providing free and low-cost professional development opportunities.

The workshop will take place at the San Diego Natural History Museum, 1788 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101. You’ll enter through the west entrance, across from the San Diego Junior Theater. The door is marked “Staff Entrance;” an EMP board member will meet you there!

2019: The Year of Big I.D.E.A.S.!

Updated Event Banner Template - 1920px x 1080px (6).png

San Diego Emerging Museum Professionals is proud to announce our 2019 theme: “Big I.D.E.A.S.”

As an acronym, IDEAS stands for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Sustainability.

These words are concepts, both concrete and abstract, that we encounter daily in the museum communities and beyond. While they have always been important to San Diego EMP and our programming, we’re excited to take a deep-dive into them with you this year!

What does inclusion mean to you? Diversity and equity? Accessibility and sustainability?

We plan to keep these ideas in the forefront as we invite you to join us for twelve carefully-crafted programs this year. From craft and conversations to hands-on workshops to helpful professional development panels… stay tuned for what is to come!

Stay connected with us on Facebook for event announcements!

Cheers to 2019,

San Diego EMP
