Join San Diego EMP for a tour of the San Diego History Center’s exhibition, LGBTQ+ San Diego, with curator Lillian Faderman. Lillian will discuss the stories of struggles and triumphs of the LGBTQ+ community in San Diego, beginning with persecution, then looking at the ways the LGBTQ+ community organized in San Diego. She will highlight documents, photos, artifacts, and brief videos that trace these early attempts to fight back and to claim a legitimate presence in San Diego.
Lillian Faderman is an internationally known scholar of LGBTQ+ History and literature. She has authored numerous books of LGBTQ+ community including The Gay Revolution: The Story of the Struggle and Harvey Milk: His Lives and Death. Her books have been translated into seven languages.
Tour begins at 6:15 pm and will last about an hour. Attendees are welcome to experience the exhibition on their own after the tour ends.
The tour is free, however, a donation of $5 is requested to support San Diego EMP’s mission of providing professional development programs for local museum professionals.
