Join San Diego EMP at La Casa de Estudillo for a special behind the scenes tour and learn about the challenges and rewards of managing a house museum in an outdoor living history park!

Karen Beery, Interpretation and Education Manager for the San Diego Coast District, and Amy Lew, Senior Park Aid-Curatorial Staff will lead the tour and discuss what makes La Casa de Estudillo, an abode hacienda, a prime architectural example of California’s Mexican Period.

Learn about maintaining objects in an open environment, creating historically accurate exhibits, and interpretation methods.

August 20: Behind the Scenes at San Diego Museum of Man: Prototyping & Cannibals!

Join San Diego EMP at the San Diego Museum of Man as we help prototype and develop interactive components for SDMoM’s upcoming exhibit, “Cannibals: Myth and Reality.”

EMPs will have the opportunity to learn about this exciting new exhibit before it opens in February 2015, and get hands-on with interactive prototypes to test for functionality and intuitiveness to create the best possible visitor experience.

Learn about prototyping, help develop the Museum of Man’s new exhibit, and enjoy beverages, snacks, and an opportunity to network!

Join San Diego EMP and the SDSU Downtown Gallery for an exclusive tour of their newest exhibit, Word Balloons: Comics at San Diego State University, on Thursday, July 23rd, from 5:30-6:15 p.m.

This after-hours tour will be led by Chantel Paul, Program Coordinator for the SDSU Downtown Gallery, and will be followed immediately by happy hour at the nearby Stone Brewing tasting room on Kettner Boulevard.

RSVP is required for the tour as space is limited. Registration is free with a suggested donation of $5 to San Diego EMP.

About the exhibit:

Word Balloons: Comics at San Diego State University shares the work of SDSU faculty, alumni, and students. Become immersed in the worldwide art form of comic culture as a vibrant part of the San Diego community. Internationally renowned artist and SDSU grad, Hugo Crosthwaite, will be creating a site-specific mural for the exhibit.

SDSU Downtown Gallery:

The SDSU Downtown Gallery is a program of the School of Art + Design, which in turn, is a unit of the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts of San Diego State University. The Downtown Gallery is one of  four galleries affiliated with the School of Art + Design.

For more than thirty years, the University Art Gallery, which is located on the SDSU campus, has received critical acclaim for its outstanding exhibition programming and curatorial vision. The SDSU Downtown Gallery continues this focus on programmatic excellence while also providing a vital link between the School of Art and the San Diego community.
